Round bamboo basket boats (thuyen thung) & Bicycles
Traditional woven bamboo craft steered by local boatmen and country bicycles with helmets.

This wonderful day trip blends the heritage charm of the ancient town of Hoi An with the bucolic serenity of its surrounding countryside. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this former merchant port enchants visitors with its maze of alleyways lined with centuries-old wooden townhouses, upward-curving temple roofs, and vibrant silk lanterns.
After a guided tour of the iconic monuments, hop on a bicycle to pedal along shaded country lanes meandering through emerald rice fields, canals, and the famous organic market gardening village of Tra Que. An introduction to traditional farming techniques and a fragrant herbal foot soak round off this invigorating day.
Morning meet-and-greet with your private French-speaking guide at your hotel in Hoi An, followed by a departure toward the coastal countryside heading to the fishing community of Van Lang and the lush Bay Mau water coconut palm forest. Along the way, pass through peaceful rural hamlets, verdant rice fields, and traditional boatbuilding workshops where wooden rivercraft are shaped by hand.
Upon arriving in Van Lang, receive a warm welcome from local boatmen and board the curious round bamboo basket boats (thuyen thung). Glide peacefully into an unspoiled maze of waterways and water coconut mangroves. The boatmen introduce you to traditional shrimp fishing techniques and show off their remarkable dexterity maneuvering these circular crafts. Following the waterway excursion, pause at a welcoming village home to rest and savor a delicious home-cooked lunch prepared with fresh local farm produce.
In the afternoon, hop on bicycles to reach the celebrated organic vegetable and herb village of Tra Que, renowned for its aromatic greens cultivated naturally without chemicals. Walk through immaculate garden plots, meet local growers, and try your hand at ancestral farming methods: tilling the fertile soil, fertilizing with lagoon algae, and watering with traditional twin sprinkler cans. In the late afternoon, enjoy a tranquil ride back to your hotel in Hoi An.

Travel Log
Selected moments to experience the landscapes, encounters, and rhythm of this itinerary.
