Spacious traditional Tay wooden house overlooking the lake, featuring clean bedding, mosquito nets, and generous family meals.

This four-day private tour takes you to explore two of northeastern Vietnam's most magnificent natural wonders: Ba Be Lake National Park and the spectacular Ban Gioc Waterfalls on the Chinese border.
Between traditional boat cruising along emerald waters, exploring the vast cathedral chambers of Nguom Ngao Cave, visiting Tay and Nung artisan craft villages in Quang Uyen, and sleeping in traditional stilt houses, you experience an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Cao Bang's mountains.
Early morning departure from Hanoi by private vehicle with your French-speaking guide across the verdant rolling hills of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan. In the early afternoon, reach Ba Be National Park, nestled in a majestic limestone amphitheater blanketed by primary rainforest.
Board a traditional boat at Buoc Lom pier for a scenic cruise along the Nang River. The boat sails through impressive Puong Cave, a natural thirty-meter-high river tunnel carved beneath the mountain, before emerging onto the three interconnected lake basins of Ba Be. Admire the Dau Dang waterfalls and karst cliffs reflecting upon emerald waters.
Late in the afternoon, disembark at the lakeside village of Pac Ngoi or Po Lu. Settle into a traditional Tay wooden stilt house overlooking the water. Enjoy a convivial home-cooked dinner prepared by your hosts.
Driving time: approx. 5h30 (230 km). Dinner and homestay overnight in Ba Be.
Spend the morning cycling along shaded trails connecting Tay hamlets nestled at the foot of forested slopes. Visit the expansive Hoa Ma Cave, adorned with thousands of glittering stalagmites.
Resume your mountain journey toward Cao Bang province, crossing the panoramic Wind Pass (Deo Gio). Continue toward the eastern district of Quang Uyen, renowned for its remarkably preserved blacksmithing and incense-making villages roofed in traditional yin-yang tiles. Walk through the hamlets of Phuc Sen and Phia Chang, observing traditional iron forging and fragrant herbal incense crafting.
In the late afternoon, settle in with a welcoming Tay or Nung host family for a warm candlelit dinner.
Driving time: approx. 3h30 (150 km). Dinner and homestay overnight in Quang Uyen.
Depart for Trung Khanh across spectacular karst valleys dotted with clear rivers and bamboo groves. Arrive at the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfalls, one of Asia's most monumental border waterfalls, where the turquoise waters of the Quay Son River tumble down stepped cascades over three hundred meters wide.
Approach the base of the thundering cascades aboard a bamboo raft to feel the spray and raw power of this extraordinary natural site.
In the afternoon, step inside Nguom Ngao Cave, an immense subterranean cathedral spanning several kilometers, famous for its giant lotus-shaped mineral formations and forests of limestone pillars. In the late afternoon, drive to the provincial capital of Cao Bang and check in to your hotel.

Travel Log
Selected moments to experience the landscapes, encounters, and rhythm of this itinerary.
