Charming Hotel or Ecolodge in Phong Nha
Spacious air-conditioned rooms featuring views over the Son River or surrounding karst mountains.

This three-day private journey connects the awe-inspiring Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park with the former imperial capital of Hue. An extraordinary geological wonderland inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, Phong Nha's limestone massif shelters some of the largest and most breathtaking caves and underground rivers on earth.
After exploring the subterranean river cave of Phong Nha and the colossal mineral cathedral of Thien Duong (Paradise Cave), travel the historic route through the former Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Between the poignant underground shelter of the Vinh Moc tunnels, the wild shores of Cua Tung, and ancient wooden residences in the heritage craft village of Phuoc Tich, experience a deeply moving crossing of Central Vietnam.
Morning arrival at the railway station or airport in Dong Hoi. Enjoy a warm welcome from your private French-speaking guide and drive to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, set within one of the oldest karst ecosystems in Asia, dating back over 400 million years.
At the Phong Nha boat pier, board a traditional wooden boat to cruise up the serene Son River, flanked by towering limestone bluffs and pastoral riverside hamlets. The boat glides into the mountain cavern to navigate the subterranean river of Phong Nha Cave, illuminated by monumental stalactites and stalagmites. Disembark inside to walk along lighted pathways through magnificent dry chambers.
Continue with an ascent to Tien Son Cave, perched on the mountainside and celebrated for its resonant rock formations that ring like gongs when gently struck. Transfer to your hotel in Phong Nha or Dong Hoi in the late afternoon. Evening and dinner at leisure.
Driving time: approx. 1h30 (50 km). Overnight at hotel in Phong Nha or Dong Hoi.
A full day dedicated to an in-depth expedition inside the awe-inspiring Thien Duong Cave ("Paradise Cave"), discovered in 2005 and celebrated as the longest dry cave in Asia. Tucked deep within the primary rainforest of the national park, it reveals breathtaking geological grandeur.
Following breakfast and private vehicle transfer, meet a specialized local cave ranger who equips you with gear (special boots and headlamps) and reviews safety briefings. The morning begins by descending into the monumental main chamber along a 3-kilometer raised wooden boardwalk, where towering stalactites and stalagmites form cathedral-like mineral sculptures. Resurface for a relaxed lunch break.
In the afternoon, embark on an adventurous speleological journey: equipped with your gear, paddle kayaks across a subterranean river, then continue on a 4-kilometer trek deeper into remote cave passages. Reach magnificent natural skylights (dolines) where daylight filters dramatically from the cavern ceiling hundreds of feet above, creating an unforgettable geological spectacle. Resurface in the late afternoon and return to your hotel in Dong Hoi. Dinner at leisure.
Driving time: approx. 2h00 round-trip (100 km). Overnight at hotel in Dong Hoi.
After breakfast, depart southward along the historic route toward the ancient imperial capital of Hue, traversing Quang Tri Province and the former Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
First stop at the coastal village of Vinh Moc to explore its extraordinary subterranean tunnel complex hand-dug into the red clay cliffs facing the sea. During intense aerial bombardments, over 300 villagers lived here self-sufficiently for years. Walk through three tiers of underground living quarters, ventilation shafts, and maternity wards opening directly onto the beach.
Continue with a contemplative pause along the wild coastline of Cua Tung before visiting the ancient village of Phuoc Tich beside the O Lau River, celebrated for its collection of 500-year-old traditional Nha Ruong wooden timber residences and artisanal pottery. Arrive in Hue in the late afternoon with drop-off at your hotel.
Driving time: approx. 4h00 (180 km). Conclusion of services at your hotel in Hue.
Travel Log
Selected moments to experience the landscapes, encounters, and rhythm of this itinerary.
